The NWM Friendly CW NET runs at 15wpm on Sunday evenings at 7:30pm local time. The club currently using different frequencies for each Sunday, to allow for different participants needs. You can see the dates and frequencies on the right hand side of this page
Below is the regular CW Net format which can be varied by the net controller depending on numbers and conditions.
Participants should listen for the net starting on or very near the scheduled frequency. Should a change of frequency be needed, the net controller will send QSY (change frequency) followed by the new frequency in numbers.
In this example, the Net Controller is David using club call M0JUW and the first caller is Jo M9ABC. Comments are in lower case and example CW is in CAPITALS.
1. Net Controller Checks Frequency is clear
- QRL? QRL?
- If no response, net controller starts the net
2. Net Controller send welcome to open net
- Participants listen for the Net Controller.

3. Net Controller calls for any op to check in
- CQ CQ NWM NET =
- CQ CQ DE M0JUW MOJUW = PSE K
- After the K you can check-in. If the Net Controller replies to someone else you can check-in next time, or the Controller may call you after this one if he got all or part of your callsign.
4. Check-Ins
- You check-in with your call, or with M0JUW DE your call then K
- M9ABC K or M0JUW DE M9ABC K
- Net controller welcomes you and sends your rst report :
- M9ABC DE M0WDD GE OM UR RST 579 579 K
- You reply with your name and rst report:
- MOWDD DE M9ABC OP JO UR RST 499 499 K
- Controller welcomes you, asks you to standby (QRX), calls for next check-in:

5. Net controller calls again for any more check-ins:
- CQ CQ NWM NET CQ CQ DE M0JUW M0JUW PSE K
- Next op calls in, and so on
- If no more calls, Net Controller sends NIL =
6. Net Controller may then send list of check-ins, so all participants know the list and order.

7. Overs between Net Controller and each participant
- The Net Controller calls each station in turn for a simple short QSO, so other ops are not kept waiting too long, and everyone can enjoy a QSO.
8. Net Controller calls first station
- M9ABC DE M0JUW ANY NEWS FER NET? K
- Any News? You can send anything you want – it does not have to be actual news!
- First station answers with one over, with any info they want, then QRU (no more to say) then K
- M0JUW DE M9ABC = WX WET = RIG 50W TO DIPOLE = QRU K
- Net Controller answers, then asks op to standby (QRX), and calls next op
- M9ABC DE M0JUW = FB JO = RIG GUD SIG ES HPE U WELL = QRX TU K
- Net Controller then calls next station, and so on
9. More Check-in Calls
- After a round of overs the Net Controller may call again for any more check-ins.
- So back to para 5 above.
10. Please Note
- Currently NWM will probably keep to the format of a check-in, then one short QSO, then a final short QSO for each participant whilst we all gain CW net experience. For future nets, or if only one or two participants check-in, we may call extra QSO round(s) before the final overs round.
11. Final Overs
- The Net Controller then calls each op in turn for a final over.
- Net Controller calls first station
- M9ABC DE M0JUW FER UR FINAL PSE K
- First station answers, short message, and 73, then K
- M0JUW DE M9ABC = TU NICE NET = 73 TO ALL K
- Net Controller answers, TU FER CALL ES RPRTS = 73 CUAGN SN SK EE

12. Net Closes
- Net Controller thanks all calls, wishes all well and closes the net.
